Nextdoor® (ND) is an independently operated social networking service, founded in 2008 and based in San Francisco, CA. The mission is ostensibly to help build stronger neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are named according to the communities they serve. Thus, Nextdoor in our neighborhood is called Nextdoor Nall Hills. This is a separate entity from NHHA – Nall Hills Homeowners Association – a business entity comprised of a Board of Directors of homeowners. While both entities may share similar information about Nall Hills events, the NHHA will not conduct business on Nextdoor. We do use ND to send out e-mail “blasts” to alert our community of important information such as reminders or holiday trash schedule variances.
Typical platform uses include: 1) sharing local information; 2) asking for or providing recommendations for nearly anything; 3) buying, selling, or giving away goods; 4) reporting issues or concerns of crime and safety; 5) reporting and helping reunite lost/found pets
Posted Nextdoor Community Guidelines
1.Be respectful to your neighbors
You’re speaking to your real neighbors. Strong communities are built on strong relationships.
2.Do not discriminate
We do not tolerate racism, hateful language, or discrimination of any kind.
3.Discuss important topics in the right place
We have policies and dedicated spaces for important non-local topics, such as national politics.
4.Use your true identity
Nextdoor is built on trust — we want everyone to know they’re communicating with their real neighbor, and therefore require you to use your true identity and actual geographic address – p.o. boxes are not accepted. (Your real first and last name are required to join. However, when you make a post on ND your first name and initial of last name will appear unless you change to your full first and last name in preferences.)
5.Do not engage in harmful activity
We prohibit any activity that could hurt someone, from physical harm to scams. Report content or neighbors that violate these Guidelines. Please remember that disagreeing with a post is not a reason to report it. We share a common space —our neighborhood — but not necessarily a common preference.
If you want to join ND:
You can download the ND app or simply go to nextdoor.org on the web. All FAQs, directions on how to get started, troubleshoot, settings, and a help center can be found on the web. You can also ask a Nall Hills neighbor who is a member of ND to email you an invitation to join.
