Nextdoor Private Social Network

Nextdoor® is an independently operated private social network site with a stated mission to help neighbors build “stronger, safer, happier communities.”  Over 145,000 neighborhoods across the nation are using Nextdoor, and it’s FREE.

Nextdoor® neighborhoods are named according to the communities they serve. Thus, Nextdoor in our neighborhood is called Nextdoor Nall Hills. This is a separate entity from NHHA – Nall Hills Homeowners Association – a business entity comprised of a Board of Directors of homeowners.   While both entities may share similar information about local events, and particularly Nall Hills events, the NHHA will not conduct business on Nextdoor.  Nextdoor® social network does not need homeowner associations to exist in a neighborhood, and includes both homeowners and renters (if any) in a given neighborhood.

Neighbors can use Nextdoor for many purposes. In Nall Hills, the network has been highly used for a variety of purposes:  service recommendations, pets lost & found, nearby commercial development concerns, reporting suspicious activity, child and pet care referral requests, items to give away or sell, and most importantly helping neighbors.

Online Safety

Online privacy is always necessary. Nextdoor makes it safe to share online.

  • Every neighbor has to verify his/her address.
  • Every neighbor signs in with her/his real name.
  • The website is protected by password and encrypted by HTTPS.
  • Information is never shared with third-party advertisers or search engines.

Nextdoor Guidelines for Neighborly Behavior

Neighbors are challenged to hold themselves and each other to the highest standard of neighborly behavior to build up community, not tear it down. From the 2017 Nextdoor® Guidelines:  “Our Guidelines prohibit posts and replies that discriminate against, attack, insult, shame, bully, or belittle others.”  You can read further by clicking on the grey font word ‘Guidelines’ at the bottom of the left side-bar of the Home Page.

Neighbors are challenged to hold themselves and each other to the highest standard of neighborly behavior with the following three pillars:

  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Share information that is helpful
  • Honestly represent yourself by using your real name (no alias or abbreviation), and join as an individual (not as a couple, family, or organization).
